Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, licensed with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)
  • Post-registration clinical experience in one or more clinical areas
  • Educated to degree level (BSc Nursing or equivalent)
  • Advanced skills in recognising the deteriorating patient
Experience
  • Ability to give intravenous therapy, including IV antibiotics
  • Competent in venepuncture and cannulation
  • Comfortable using mobile health apps / digital record-keeping systems
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior staff
  • Post-qualifying clinical experience in one or more relevant clinical areas (e.g. geriatrics, chronic disease management)
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage own caseload
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of, or strong interest in, home-based / community nursing care models
  • Sound knowledge of vitals monitoring, IV therapy, venepuncture and cannulation
  • Understanding of chronic disease management relevant to an ageing population (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, stroke recovery)
  • Prior experience working in a community or home-visiting setting
  • Willingness to work towards additional courses or certifications (e.g. geriatric or palliative care)

  • Approachable and compassionate manner with patients and families
  • Good verbal communication skills; clear written communication for app-based records
  • Able to use initiative when working alone in a patient's home
  • Able to prioritise a caseload of 3–4 patient visits per day and deliver agreed objectives
  • Adaptable to changing patient needs and schedules
  • Understanding of, and consistent commitment to, patient confidentiality
  • Ability to remain professional and calm under emotional pressure
  • Reliable and supportive to colleagues and the Clinical Manager
  • High standards of clinical performance
  • Culturally sensitive, respectful of family dynamics and preferences around elder care
Other
  • To be flexible in working with patients' existing hospitals, clinics and doctors, adjusting to each provider's processes
  • Able to travel independently and efficiently to multiple patient homes across Lagos in one day, while transporting clinical equipment
  • Own smartphone capable of running the Jourwell app

Background checks: this role involves regular, often unsupervised, contact with elderly and vulnerable patients in their own homes. All appointments are conditional on satisfactory completion of Jourwell's background-check process.
